Washington County Republican Party Adopts Resolution Calling for Greater Transparency in Public Bond Elections
Bartlesville, Okla. — The Washington County Republican Party has adopted a resolution encouraging greater transparency and broader public participation in public bond elections, calling on Bartlesville Public Schools to release detailed financial information before voters cast ballots on the proposed August 25, 2026, bond election.
The resolution asks the school district to make available the financial analyses supporting the proposed approximately $40.5 million bond package, including current debt levels, projected debt capacity, debt-service schedules, assessed valuation assumptions, projected sinking-fund millage, and the analysis supporting statements that the proposal would result in no increase in the tax rate.
In addition to requesting greater transparency for the upcoming election, the resolution encourages state policymakers and local governments to consider holding future bond elections alongside regularly scheduled general elections whenever practical and consistent with Oklahoma law, helping maximize voter participation and strengthen public confidence in decisions involving long-term public indebtedness.
The resolution will be transmitted to the Bartlesville Public Schools Board of Education with a request that the requested financial information be made publicly available prior to the August 25 election.
